EMPOWERING WOMEN IN OGUN COMMUNITIES
Do you know that one in every 10 women is living in extreme poverty? If current trends continue, by 2030, an estimated 8 per cent of the world’s female population – 342.4 million women and girls – will still be living on less than $2 daily, most (220.9 million) will reside in sub-Saharan Africa.
About ten years ago, @gendihq team stumbled on an improverished community of villagers in a hamlet (Sorrmekun village) in Abeokuta area of Ogun State. Held by compassion, GENDI began several initiatives in that community.
Today and about 10 years after the first encounter, we partnered with @gendihq and other CSOs in Ogun State to empower women in the community. This is to complement previous efforts by GENDI and partners in the community and environs.
During the engagement, community members recall how several initiatives have brought life to the community from education intervention for children, relief materials, agricultural orientation and health interventions.
Today, we donated food, clothing items as well as cash from resources pulled together by GENDI and partners
This gesture further shows @initiativeforpeacecomfort commitment to social development and comfort.
Let’s join hands together to do good and reduce poverty in our societies.
