Skill Empowerment: Beneficiaries Appreciate PFOMF Foundation as Training Continues
Beneficiaries of the Prof. Femi Onifade Memorial Foundation (PFOMF) Sewing Skills Acquisition Programme have expressed appreciation to the Foundation for giving them the opportunity to acquire vocational skills that will improve their economic independence and future livelihoods.
The beneficiaries spoke during a monitoring visit to the Bright Light Couture Fashion Institute, located at Goshen Estate, Asero, Abeokuta.
The monitoring exercise, conducted as part of the Foundation’s commitment to monitoring and evaluating its Skills Acquisition Programme, assessed the progress of four women currently undergoing training in fashion designing and sewing.
The monitoring team, led by Prof. Comfort Onifade, arrived at the training centre and was received by the trainer, Mrs. Bright, and the beneficiaries.
The visit revealed a high level of commitment among the participants, as all four beneficiaries were present and actively involved in their practical training sessions.
Some of the trainees were seen operating sewing machines, while others were drafting patterns and preparing garment designs for production. The training environment was well organised, with the trainer providing practical instructions, supervision and guidance to the beneficiaries.
Mrs. Bright commended the beneficiaries for their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to learning. She noted that the trainees had continued to make commendable progress since the commencement of the programme.
According to her, the monitoring visit was unannounced, as neither the trainer nor the beneficiaries had prior knowledge that representatives of the Foundation would be visiting the centre.
She said the presence and active participation of all the beneficiaries during the unannounced visit further demonstrated their commitment to acquiring the skills.
Speaking about their experiences and aspirations, the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the PFOMF Foundation for investing in their future through the skills acquisition programme.
Mrs. Chinyere Gbadebo, a full-time housewife, said she enrolled in the programme to acquire a sustainable means of livelihood through fashion designing. She expressed the hope of eventually becoming skilled enough to train others.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Oluwaseun Adenikan, a married woman and former teacher, said she joined the programme to acquire sewing skills that would enable her to contribute more meaningfully to her family’s income after completing the training.
Mrs. Akinwunmi Aminatu, who already makes bags, said the opportunity would help her expand her existing skills into clothing production.
She expressed her determination to work hard and establish herself in the fashion industry while appreciating Prof. Comfort Onifade and the Foundation for the opportunity.
Similarly, Mrs. Grace Adekunle, a married teacher, said she enrolled in the programme to improve her knowledge and practical skills in fashion designing.
She said her long-term aspiration is to establish a fashion school where she can train and empower others, expressing appreciation to the Foundation for selecting her as a beneficiary.
During the visit, Prof. Comfort Onifade held individual interactions with the beneficiaries to assess their learning experiences, progress and future aspirations.
The beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the quality of the training and commended the Foundation for its commitment to empowering women through vocational skills acquisition.
The monitoring exercise confirmed that the training programme is progressing satisfactorily, with all four beneficiaries demonstrating consistency, commitment and steady progress in acquiring fashion designing skills.
