Ogbomoso hosts CEHUWEI Leadership and Advocacy for Youths Fellowship

Ogbomoso, Oyo State — Cedars for Human Welfare Initiative (CEHUWEI) has concluded a four-day intensive training for young leaders under the Leadership and Advocacy for Youths (CLAY) Fellowship, with the theme “Empowering Citizens, Building Communities.”

The residential programme, which held from Tuesday, August 5 to Friday, August 8 at the Talking Drum Apartment in Ogbomoso, brought together emerging leaders and change makers for a series of workshops, lectures, and mentorship sessions designed to sharpen civic engagement and community development skills. 

Among the fellows was the Programme Manager of the Initiative for Peace and Comfort (IPC), who joined other participants in the robust capacity-building sessions.

The fellowship featured experts from government, academia, civil society, and the private sector.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State, opened the programme with a session on Ethics, Values and Patriotism, stressing the role of integrity and patriotism in national development.

Mrs. O.C. Daniel engaged participants on Self-Image, Self-Evaluation and Need-Based Assessment, while sessions on Vision and Goal Setting encouraged fellows to align personal goals with broader community aspirations.

Barr. Dr. Ayoola Afolabi spoke on Know Your Rights, Know Your Strength, emphasizing rights-based advocacy.

Mr. Ayoola John introduced fellows to Social Mobilization through Social Media, while Dr. Anthony Oyedeji (JDPC) described advocacy as a vital tool for social change.

Subsequent sessions included Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Action by Mrs. Adebukola Adekola; Project Management Cycle by Dr. Dare Adaramoye; Social Protection, Audit and Gender Mainstreaming by Mrs. Tunrayo Oripeloye; Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights by Mr. Omole Babatunde; Community Mapping and Project Tracking by Mr. Ademuyiwa Adeyemi (BudgIT); Build Bridges, Not Walls by Dr. Dayo Ogunbowale, SA to the Oyo Governor on Communication.

The NOA also presented the Renewed Hope Projects, while Mr. Olajide Femi (DINABI) led a session on Organizing and Mobilizing for Sustainable Growth and Transformative Leadership.

Other topics covered included nonprofit management, business skills, innovation, grant-making, and public financial management, with facilitators such as Hon. Ajala Adetunji, Mr. Ayobami Suleiman, and Mr. Sunday Taiwo (PLSI).

The fellows also benefitted from mentorship sessions with Hon. Timothy Oyedokun, Chairman of Ogbomoso South LGA, and Engr. Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hammed, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Osun State. Both leaders shared insights on governance, innovation, and servant-leadership.

Participants were equipped with enhanced leadership skills, practical tools for project design and implementation, and deeper awareness of civic responsibility.
